Itinerary

Morning Pick-up: They will pick you up from your hotel in La Ceiba vehicle, which is often necessary for the final stretch of road to the park entrance.

Arrival at the Visitor Center: You'll arrive at the Pico Bonito National Park visitor center, where your guide will handle the registration and pay the park entrance fee (usually included in your tour price).

The Hike Begins: Your guide will lead you on the trails. The most common combination is the La Roca Trail, which is the highlight for most visitors.

La Roca Trail: You'll hike through lush, primary and secondary rainforest, crossing several streams. The trail can be muddy and involves some uphill sections, but it's manageable for anyone in average physical condition. The reward is a stunning, powerful waterfall with a large, refreshing pool perfect for a swim.

Wildlife Spotting: Your guide will constantly be on the lookout for wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for:

Birds: Toucans (the company's namesake!), parrots, motmots, trogons.

Mammals: Howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, agoutis, and if you're very lucky, a coati or a peccary.

Insects & More: Brilliant blue morpho butterflies, leaf-cutter ants, and various frogs.

Lunch: After the hike, they will typically take you to a scenic spot for lunch. This could be a packed lunch eaten at a lookout point or a meal at a nearby lodge along the Río Cangrejal.

Return to La Ceiba: You'll be driven back to your hotel, usually arriving in the mid-to-late afternoon.
What to Pack and Wear (Even with a Guide)
Guacamayos will provide the guide and logistics, but you are still responsible for your personal gear.

Sturdy Footwear: Hiking boots or sturdy trail runners with good grip are essential. The trails are rocky and can be very slippery.

Clothing: Wear quick-drying pants or shorts and a moisture-wicking t-shirt. It will be humid.

Rain Jacket: A lightweight, packable rain jacket is always a good idea in the jungle.

Swimwear and a Towel: You will NOT want to miss a swim in the waterfall pool!

Daypack: To carry your water, snacks, and extra layers.

Water: At least 1.5-2 liters of water per person. Confirm if the tour provides water.

Sunscreen, Insect Repellent, and a Hat: Jungle essentials.

Binoculars: Highly recommended for wildlife viewing.

Cash: For tipping your guide (optional but appreciated) and any additional souvenirs or drinks.
