Getting ready for a day on the Cangrejal River, or a hike up into Pico Bonito National Park? Here's a simple packing list to make the day as comfortable as possible.
For rafting
- Swimsuit or quick-dry athletic clothes — you will get wet, so skip cotton and anything you don't want to spend the day in
- Secure-strap sandals or old sneakers — flip-flops will not survive the river, and you'll want real grip on wet rocks
- A full change of dry clothes and a towel for afterward
- Reef-safe sunscreen, applied before you get on the water
- A dry bag or ziplock for your phone and wallet if you're bringing them to the put-in point
- Cash for tips — your guide works hard out there
For hiking Pico Bonito
- Closed-toe hiking shoes with good tread — trails in the rainforest can be muddy and slick
- A light rain jacket or poncho — the rainforest earns its name
- Bug spray
- A refillable water bottle
- A hat or cap for the open stretches of trail
What not to worry about
You don't need to bring your own rafting gear — helmets, life jackets, and paddles are provided and fitted before you launch. If you're staying nearby, our sister property Hotel Guacamayos La Ceiba is a comfortable, easy base to get ready from, and Shuttle Guacamayos can help with transfers so you're not worrying about logistics on trip day.
